FAQs

All your questions in one place.

Everyone is welcome

  • Yes! We have many families from the local community. Many of our children have since graduated on to enrol in local primary schools.

  • Yes. We have an allergy alert system, an allergy management plan system, and well trained staff, as well as a chef who understands!

  • Yes. Come talk to us. We have an inclusion program here with its own staff member who will meet with you, design an enrolment and support plan, and help you and your child’s support team get started.

  • Absolutely. At any one time, we usually have 3 or 4 sets of twins in the centre.

  • Yes of course! It is our job to support your child and fit into their routine, not the other way around.

  • We speak around 13 languages and come from across the globe. We have thousands of hours of experience caring for and educating children who don’t speak any English when they arrive.

Come talk to us about how we do it. Our goal is that your child can learn and speak freely in their home language and learn English – to keep those all-important cultural connections alive! Our communication practice is based on the recommendations from the Australian Speech Pathologists Association.

How to get started

  • Of course! We can tailor a tour to the times you need.

We also welcome family members who are important to you to come along and share the experience. Ask about our Saturday tours too! (Our Centre really is beautiful!)

Start with a call, email or book a tour online.

  • Click Book a Tour in the main menu or email us at enrolment@unicare.net.au

  • Booking early is important, but many of our families are surprised that we can accommodate them.

That is because we have a large staff and lots of rooms here. Not only can we accommodate families, but we can also give you the reassurance of a clear start date.

  • Don’t worry! We recommend two visits before starting at Unicare, so your child (and you!) feel comfortable.

On the first orientation visit – typically 30 minutes to an hour in room – you will meet the room team – when your child sees you at ease in the room, they will settle in. You can talk with your Educators about preparing for enrolment.

On your second visit we recommend you leave the room for a short period to allow your child to play and settle, knowing that you are coming back soon.

  • We are here to help! We can provide step-by-step instructions to apply for your Childcare Subsidy. However, we are not able to apply on your behalf.

Check out our handy tips in the New Parents Centre.

Life at Unicare

  • Absolutely. We have lots of breast-feeding parents come to the centre through the day.

We also store expressed breast milk too.

  • Yes, but we need to be clear how and when that happens, so that they don’t think it is ‘going’ home time.

But it is doable! You can also call us.

Or ask for a picture at any time!

  • Please keep your child at home if the child is showing any of the following symptoms:

    • Generally showing cold/flu symptoms

    • A temperature above 37.5°C

    • Diarrhoea or vomiting.

Children with infections must be excluded for the period recommended by the Department of Health.

  • If your child is ill and displaying symptoms of an illness, they need you.

We call the parent to discuss, but if we think you are needed, or of it looks like an infectious illness, we will ask you to come to the Centre.

We use the National Health and Medical Research Council guidelines from their publication ‘Staying Healthy’ to guide us:

  • At least twice a year you will be invited to meet with your child’s Educator’s to go through your child’s developmental summary and have a chat about how they are developing.

You are of course welcome to ask for a meeting at any time. We are a very open team and will of course come to you if we have any concerns about your child.

  • You can see photos of your child in the weekly Room Book entries, your personalised Storybook, and on collage boards around the centre. You can also ask for a photo at any time!
